The students in Mrs. Eve Yarbrough’s second grade class recently completed a novel study on the book, Midnight on the Moon, by Mary Pope Osborne. Annie and Jack (characters in the book) take an adventurous trip to the moon in their magical tree house. After their study, the second graders researched Apollo missions. To extend their learning, the students worked in groups to create their own Apollo mission. They had to design a patch, give the dates and duration of their mission, and give details of the events that would happen on their mission. The students’ missions ranged from experiments with water on Jupiter and Pluto, to experimenting with the weights of rocks from Earth and the Moon.
