First graders at Schley County Elementary are learning about American symbols in Social Studies. Students researched facts about a symbol of their choice and created a replica. They used a variety of materials to create them. From a 3-dimensional White House to hand-sewn American flags, the students used many creative ideas to construct their symbols. Each student presented his/her symbol and explained how it was created. They also provided facts about why each symbol is important to our country. The American flag and Bald Eagle were definitely the top choices, but the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty were popular as well. The American symbol projects served as a wonderful President’s Day display in the main hallway!
